About the role

Strategic Policy is looking for an intellectually curious and energetic Research and Data Analyst or Senior Research and Data Analyst to join our small and nimble strategy team.

 

In this role you will work collaboratively with policy advisors and other analysts on analytical projects that help to advance MBIE's thinking on new or emergent issues.  You will also develop and deliver projects looking at firm and employee performance at the micro level.  We want to better understand the New Zealand's economic performance at the firm level in order to provide policy insights.

 

This is an outstanding opportunity to bring your data and analytical skills to bear on issues that matter for the wellbeing of New Zealanders.

 

Skills and Experience required

To be successful you will need to:

 

  • Have experience analysing micro data and using advanced econometric techniques
  • Enjoy thinking about policy, and working with policy teams to understand the issues relevant to them and how research might provide relevant insights to them
  • Be comfortable with and effective at guiding and mentoring other researchers in their projects
  • Foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, on-going learning and knowledge sharing
  • Be able to deliver results with limited direction and guidance
  • Be able to develop and implement projects
  • Be customer-focused and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders

 

Experience working with Statistics New Zealand's Longitudinal Business Database would be an advantage.

 

In addition, as a Senior Research and Data Analyst, you will need to:

  • Have experience thinking strategically to identify what is important in the medium and long term and see issues in their wider context to ensure advice is practical and influential
  • Demonstrate the ability to be proactive and outward-looking in building and maintaining relationships across a large organisation
