On behalf of the Minister of Research, Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced candidates to be directors of the New Zealand Forest Research Institute Ltd (Scion).
As one of the Crown Research Institutes (CRIs) supporting New Zealand's scientific research and innovation sectors, Scion's purpose is to drive innovation and growth from New Zealand's forestry, wood product and wood-derived materials and other biomaterial sectors, to create economic value and contribute to beneficial environmental and social outcomes for New Zealand.
MBIE is now seeking new directors for the Scion Board. We welcome applications from candidates who want to be considered for these key roles and are able to demonstrate the following attributes:
- Strong knowledge of Te Ao Māori and connections to Māori, particularly in the central North Island region.
- Extensive governance experience.
- Understanding of the circular bio-economy, and its relevance and importance to the
New Zealand economy.
Candidates will be expected to have a genuine interest in Scion's work, as well as the motivation and availability needed to be able to effectively carry out the role of Scion director.
This is a contestable process and applications will be assessed according to the skills and experience the Scion Board requires at this particular time.
