On behalf of the Minister of Research, Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced candidates to be directors of the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research Limited (NIWA) Board.
NIWA is a Crown Research Institute (CRI). Its purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand's aquatic resources and environments, to provide understanding of climate and the atmosphere, and increase resilience to weather and climate hazards to improve the safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders.
MBIE is now seeking new directors for the NIWA Board. We welcome applications from candidates who want to be considered for these key roles and are able to demonstrate a number of the following attributes:
- In depth knowledge of Te Ao Māori
- Strong stakeholder management, governance and strategic skills
- Financial acumen with audit and risk experience
- Previous experience in the public sector and/or on public sector boards
- Knowledge and/or experience in the science funding system
- Science knowledge and experience in freshwater, climate, atmospheric or oceanography research
Candidates will be expected to have a genuine interest in NIWA's work, as well as the motivation and availability needed to be able to effectively carry out the role of NIWA Board director.
This is a contestable process and applications will be assessed according to the skills and experience the NIWA Board requires at this particular time.
