On behalf of the Minister of Research, Science and Innovation, the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced candidates to be Chair of the Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research New Zealand Limited (Manaaki Whenua) Board.
Manaaki Whenua is a Crown Research Institute (CRI) with a core purpose of driving innovation in New Zealand's management of terrestrial biodiversity and land resources in order to both protect and enhance the terrestrial environment and grow New Zealand's prosperity. Manaaki Whenua is responsible for supporting New Zealand to develop a sustainable relationship with our land, through the delivery of exceptional science across a wide range of disciplines.
MBIE is now seeking a new Chair for the Manaaki Whenua Board. We welcome applications from candidates who want to be considered for this pivotal role.
Candidates are expected to have extensive governance experience, including in Chair roles. Candidates must also demonstrate a number of the following attributes:
- Knowledge/experience in the science sector.
- Regulatory experience.
- Crown sector/public service experience and an understanding of machinery of Government
- Primary Sector / Local Government experience.
- Connectivity with, and experience collaborating with, universities and the science sector.
- Change management skills.
- Experience working with rural Iwi.
Candidates will be expected to have a genuine interest in the work of Manaaki Whenua, as well as the motivation and availability needed to be able to effectively carry out the role of Chairperson.
This is a contestable process and applications will be assessed according to the skills and experience the Manaaki Whenua Board requires at this particular time.
