The Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery group's Service Transformation team empowers and enables the technology and business solutions which are key to the way the Ministry delivers its services to the public. We are a high performing team delivering high impact outcomes.
We currently have a two-year fixed-term employment opportunity for a Senior Project Manager based in our Stout Street Wellington office. The successful applicant will work on a variety of in-flight and new projects from project initiation through to technology implementation and business transformation. The project management team works across multiple areas of the MBIE Service Delivery group including Business Registries, Services, Labour, Science and Enterprise and Building and the Energy, Resources and Markets branches.
We are looking for Senior Project Managers experienced working with both waterfall and agile methodologies. Strong experience working effectively in a structured government environment with a wide range of stakeholders is required – and website development and Azure DevOps experience would be an advantage. MBIE Project Managers work collaboratively together with internal project and business team members and multiple vendors.
Your Technical Background
Our Project Management Capability sets the standard by which we deliver. The influence across all our teams is vast, and with this ability to have influence, we expect the successful candidate to drive delivery of the highest standard for our business owners, and the wider Ministry. We are a diverse environment, and as such, having exposure to a large variety of projects, technologies and frameworks is an absolute must. We're looking for people who are able to align delivery within our governance framework through provision of high quality documentation in addition to achieving successful project outcomes. Our projects are fast moving and are frequently providing critical services to the wider Ministry, therefore, you will need to have knowledge and experience to apply freely, add value and move us toward successful outcomes quickly and efficiently. MBIE has a reputation for large scale implementation where we challenge the status quo, delivering solutions which are innovative, creative and ultimately have a positive impact on the lives of many New Zealanders. It is therefore vital that you have that innate passion to harness business and technology solutions for maximum impact. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the very front of Government thinking, breaking new ground and disrupting the norm.
Your Commercial and Communication Skills
We are looking for an extensive track record in delivery within central Government, coupled with vendor management skills in order to deliver great outcomes for our business owners. Constant communication, the ability to cut through the noise and get to the critical issues will be key to your success in this role. The Senior Project Manager is part of a well-balanced and supportive team, you will have peers and colleagues to help you integrate to MBIE, and in turn you will be expected to share your knowledge when appropriate. Your work load will be constant and varied, and you will need to be able to keep pace with both the volume, and at times pressures, of a high performing team.
