This is a great opportunity to contribute to the safety and wellbeing of New Zealand and its people. We are looking for passionate and observant Security Officers to provide a safe and secure environment for returnees and guests staying in Managed Isolation & Quarantine (MIQ) hotel facilities.
About the role
The purpose of this role is to keep MIQ facilities safe and secure by preventing unauthorised entry or exit to sites. This includes working to site Standard Operating Procedures, following instructions, being observant, attentive and respectful to returnees, guests and other staff at the facility. You will be responsible to monitor and manage the movements of the returnees and guests, detect, record and respond to incidents appropriately by reporting to an onsite Operations and Security Manager.
You will patrol designated areas in accordance with site security plans and procedures, identify and report potential risks, check surveillance cameras, assist returnees, guests and other staff with any concerns and submit reports of daily surveillance activity and important occurrences.
You will also provide great customer service, have an excellent work ethic and a willingness to upskill and comply with policies and procedures.
Skills and experience required:
- Security Certificate of Approval (COA) or the ability to obtain one
- Ability to follow guidelines and procedures
- strong observational and monitoring abilities
- A polite, calm and reasonable approach
- strong communication skills
- Spontaneity and agility
- Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
- Preferable prior CCTV experience
- A high-level of physical strength and fitness

MIQ became an MBIE business group on 13 July 2020. The purpose of managed isolation is to ensure COVID-19 is not spread to the community while enabling Kiwis and other exempted travellers to return to New Zealand safely. A key enabler of this work is collaboration across government.
Over 115,000 people have passed through MIQ since New Zealand stood up its response to COVID-19. We operate thirty-two managed isolation facilities in five regions.
A range of agencies including the Ministry of Health, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, New Zealand Police, Customs, New Zealand Defence Force, Aviation Security Service and other business groups in MBIE are working together to deliver an enduring MIQ system.
