About the role
Small businesses are the lifeblood of the New Zealand economy and backbone of our communities – accounting for 97% of all businesses in New Zealand. In recognition of the unique needs of small businesses, the Small Business Policy and Strategic Programmes branch was established in late 2019. We work hand in hand with our delivery focused colleagues and small businesses to make New Zealand the best place in the world to do business.
We are developing an ambitious policy work programme ready for you to refine and deliver. You have a new team with some existing people and others to recruit. You will have ideas and experience in bringing new teams or functions together and we will be looking to you to develop a high performing team as quickly as possible.
Skills and experience required

You are joining a great leadership team in our branch but your collaborative approach doesn't stop there. In all aspects of this role you will work closely with your policy and operational peers across MBIE and government. Your exceptional stakeholder skills and will be utilised as you spend time creating and maintaining credible and enduring relationships with private sector partners.
You are a person who is comfortable with ambiguity. You're experienced, motivated and enthusiastic. On a daily basis you will use your ability to think on your feet, make quality decisions, and solve problems. You will work through engaged people to deliver advice and solutions of the highest quality.
