About the role
You will report to the Head of Integrity within the Legal, Ethics and Privacy Branch and contribute strongly to the delivery and monitoring of the Ministry's Integrity Framework and annual Integrity Work Programme.
You will lead internal investigations into alleged fraud or corruption, dishonesty, breaches of conflicts of interest, loss or misappropriation of information or data, and other insider threats. You may also support protected disclosure investigations. You will provide quality assurance and support for other investigators' integrity investigations throughout their lifecycle, and strong assurance to the Ministry's Integrity Assessment Panel.
You will play a key role contributing to the delivery of the Ministry's Integrity Framework and work with colleagues and senior managers to embed the critical aspects of the framework to support a strong culture of integrity and ethics organisation-wide.
Skills and experience required
To be successful in this role you will need the following knowledge, skills and experience:
- Proven experience working as an internal investigator.
- Highly attuned to applying good judgement and ethical considerations.
- Proven understanding of prevent, detect and respond investigative techniques and methods.
- Ability to work without direct supervision, keeping your manager in the loop to ensure no surprises, and maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
- A team player, willingly sharing and receiving information, knowledge, insights and expertise within the team and collaborating with others across the organisation.
- Wide ranging knowledge of how to help leaders to shape the integrity culture within a large organisation.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly understand business systems and functions.
- Proven ability to communicate information, both orally and written, in a manner and style appropriate to the intended audience.
- Ability to comfortably discuss and identify the issues and problems arising from an allegation appropriately with business managers.
- Empathetic, with active listening skills and good at probing the facts.
- Highly computer literate, including advanced Microsoft Office word and excel skills.
- An understanding of the NZ judicial system and its processes would be advantageous, but is not essential.
- A tertiary level qualification in a relevant discipline, ideally law, human resources or business-related is desirable, but not essential.
