We are looking for a Principal Advisor – Engineering to help us create a better building sector - not only for those in the industry, but for all New Zealanders.

About the role
As Principal Advisor Engineering within the Building Performance & Engineering team, you can influence key decisions within the building systems sector to ensure the safety of all New Zealanders.
You will be responsible for providing expert technical analysis and strategic advice on engineering within the existing New Zealand regulatory framework. Working alongside technical experts, key stakeholders and industry experts you will assess technical information in relation to the regulatory system and develop advice on possible implications, including analysis of building code performance requirements and current regulatory settings.
This is a fantastic opportunity to provide thought leadership to the business as well as coaching mentoring to the team and across the branch on engineering principles, concepts and practices. The work is complex and no day will be the same – you'll be involved in developing engineering settings, providing tools, advice and guidance across the Building System Performance branch ensuring quality, consistency and relevance of advice and practices in relation to the Building Performance and Engineering team's work.
Skills and experience for the role
- Significant experience in engineering and a reputation as an expert in this field
- You have a talent for communicating technical information in a way that is clear and easy to understand for non-technical audiences
- You are an excellent project manager and are confident in your ability to manage your own time and meet deadlines
- A proven ability to develop trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders
- An understanding of regulatory systems or previous regulatory experience would be a bonus
