About the role.
MBIE has an ambitious goal- getting to world leading in all our regulatory systems by 2022. You will help to drive MBIE's regulatory stewardship programme to reach this goal. You will be part of a small team which reports to MBIE's Senior Leadership Team about regulatory stewardship, and works with teams across MBIE to help make regulatory stewardship part of MBIE's “DNA”- the way we do things. To do this the Regulatory Systems team needs to design high quality systems and processes which can be used easily by many people in MBIE, and external stakeholders too. As you do so, you will work with a wide variety of policy, operational and service delivery teams across MBIE so you will get to see what the whole organisation does.
Skills and experience required:
We are keen to hear from candidates with the following experience:
- Experience in a senior business advisory role
- Ability to see the linkages between different topics and areas of work
- Strong collaborative skills and ability to come up with solutions which meet a variety of needs
- Enthusiasm for building new systems and processes
- Good knowledge of government and how it works
Some experience in supporting governance bodies, for example through establishing and implementing reporting, would be beneficial but not necessarily required.
Why work for us?
The Strategic Policy and Programmes Group (“SPP”) works across MBIE to help bring its various parts together, influence it to look across and ahead, and incubate new ideas and programmes. The regulatory systems team in SPP does this for one of MBIE's core roles- stewardship of a large collection of regulatory systems. If we are to grow New Zealand for all we need to be amongst the best in the world at regulation, and a lot of what we do in MBIE is about regulation - making policy for it, designing it, delivering services to make regulation work, and ensuring compliance with it. You will be working with a diverse group of people in a friendly and stimulating environment.
The purpose of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is to Grow New Zealand for All. Our goal is to create a strong and high-performing economy by creating an environment that supports businesses to become more productive and internationally competitive.
This role reports to the Director, Regulatory Systems in the Strategic Policy and Programmes Group. The Director Regulatory Systems reports to the Deputy Chief executive, Strategic Policy and Programmes, and to the MBIE Regulatory Governance Board, a standing committee of MBIE SLT.
