About the role
As a permanent employee in a Analyst role within the Markets team, you will be engaging with the Energy Sector, measuring and reflecting the supply and demand of energy throughout New Zealand. You will be using your creativity to explain both visually, and through applied statistics, how the energy sector is changing. Your work will feed into the international reporting of Energy Statistics.
We value creative and curious minds, and we will expose you to advanced statistical techniques and challenge your thinking. You will have a high level of curiosity, and be able to demonstrate that curiosity through the visual presentation of data, and the application of modern statistical techniques.
You must be the type of person who is not happy with bog-standard Excel-based analysis and graphics. You will have some exposure to modern cutting-edge visualisation languages, either professionally or in your spare time. You will have a practical applied knowledge of modern statistical techniques, and you will have written computer code in a modern statistical language or package.
An operations research and/or economic background with at least one computer language is essential, and experience in the R statistical language is highly regarded.
Skills and experience required:
- A willingness to learn.
- Enjoy working with policy teams to understand the issues relevant to them and how research might provide relevant insights to them
- Be comfortable with and effective at guiding and mentoring other researchers in their projects
- Foster an open, collaborative environment that encourages quality, innovation, on-going learning and knowledge sharing
- Be able to deliver results with limited direction and guidance
- Be able to develop and implement projects
- Be customer-focused and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Must have legal right to live and work in NZ
