About MBIE:

The purpose of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is to grow the New Zealand economy to provide a better standard of living for all New Zealanders.  Our goal is to create a strong and high-performing economy by creating an environment that supports businesses to become more productive and internationally competitive.

Why work for us?

To reach its goal, MBIE is investing in its intelligence function, recognising the value this brings to decisions about risk and opportunity. MBIE is expanding its existing intelligence platform to meet the needs of its range of portfolios.  The MBIE Intelligence Unit makes a unique contribution that enables decision makers to assess and manage risk and value at the earliest possible opportunity.

About the role.

As an Intelligence Analyst, you will work in partnership across MBIE and other government agencies to inform decision makers. You will be an intelligence practitioner who can apply intelligence principles and fundamentals to particular portfolios, developing areas of specialisation and intelligence expertise.

We are a busy unit, operating in a high tempo and dynamic environment and embarking on a period of expansion. Achievers in the Intelligence roles are resilient, enthusiastic self-starters, whose excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and confidence will ensure they're a great team fit.

As a member of our Intelligence Unit you will develop intelligence products and services for a wide range of customers from leadership teams to frontline staff.  These products and services contribute on both a tactical and strategic level, to inform the debate on priorities, policy and legislative issues and responses.

To do this effectively you must be comfortable in your ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders that ensure your customers get the intelligence services they need in a timely manner

Skills and experience required:

  • Strong analytical skills with a problem-solving approach
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral

  • Ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work
  • A collaborative and action-oriented approach
  • Ability to adapt within a dynamic environment
  • Good initiative and sound judgement
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance

The following may be an advantage:

  • A tertiary qualification or comparable relevant experience
  • Previous experience with regulatory functions or law enforcement in the public sector.
  • An understanding of intelligence and risk management within the public sector.
  • Experience of handling sensitive or classified information
