  • Senior role with a focus on delivery and implementation of a comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategy
  • 2 year fixed term opportunity
  • High profile, hands on programme

We want to grow New Zealand for all New Zealanders – for our communities, our families and our children – to make New Zealand a place where we can all prosper.  These aspirations are echoed in our Māori identity – Hīkina Whakatutuki – which broadly means ‘lifting to make successful'.

The KiwiBuild initiative is a key priority for the Government.  The programme provides the opportunity for a step-change in the housing and construction sector by increasing land and house supply, investigating major greenfield and urban regeneration projects and exploring innovative ways to address market constraints.

The Government has established the KiwiBuild Unit within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to start delivering on the ambitious programme to build 100,000 affordable homes over the next 10 years.  The unit has been set up as an interim unit ahead of the Housing Commission, which will ultimately take over the KiwiBuild functions when it is established.

We are looking for an experienced communications professional to join a small team charged with delivering complementary stakeholder engagement and communications strategies for KiwiBuild.  You will have a strong track record of developing and delivering exceptional stakeholder engagement strategies on large and complex programmes of work. You will have had proven success engaging with senior stakeholders and managing customer expectations. The work you do will have been robust, measurable and focused on providing quality, consistent and assessable outcomes.

You will also have the opportunity to work across the communications spectrum on both internal and external communication channels. You will have an eye for detail and the ability to assess and respond in a fast moving, high profile programme of work.  You will need to be self-motivated with an acute appreciation of the political landscape and wider government communication priorities.

Reporting to the Manager Stakeholder Engagement and Communications you will work together to maximise opportunities for a joined up communication approach, leveraging both stakeholder engagement and communication resources to benefit the programme and reach the right audiences.

Who are we looking for?

  • Self-motivated people with excellent, positive and confident stakeholder management skills
  • An ability to think in different ways, and look at problems from other perspectives
  • An ability to quickly learn about new concepts, technologies, and understand the opportunities in a public policy space
  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to ‘follow your nose' to find, and solve, complex problems
  • Action orientated, able to develop project plans to deliver on the opportunity

Do you have senior communications and stakeholder management experience in a related sector as well as experience with commercial and consumer channels of delivery and managing customer expectations?  If so, then we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this role further with you.
