We want to grow New Zealand for all New Zealanders – for our communities, our families and our children – to make New Zealand a place where we can all prosper.  These aspirations are echoed in our Māori identity – Hīkina Whakatutuki – which broadly means ‘lifting to make successful'.

The KiwiBuild initiative is a key priority for the Government.  The programme provides the opportunity for a step-change in the housing and construction sector by increasing land and housing supply, investigating major greenfield and urban regeneration projects as well as exploring innovative ways to address market constraints.

The Government has established the KiwiBuild Unit within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to start delivering on the ambitious programme to build 100,000 affordable homes over the next 10 years.  The unit has been set up as an interim unit ahead of the Housing Commission, which will ultimately take over the KiwiBuild functions when it is established.

Reporting to the Manager KiwiBuild (Development/Land Supply), the Contract Manager will be part of a dedicated team charged with initiating the delivery of KiwiBuild outcomes.  The Contract Manager will implement effective contract management systems and manage contract and supplier relationships, with a strong focus on ensuring deliverables and milestones are met.  They will provide specialist contract management advice to the KiwiBuild Programme and build the contract management capability of the team.

This role will appeal to a highly motivated, experienced Contract Manager keen to use their considerable knowledge on a high profile, large and complex programme of work. This expertise will be integral in ensuring this programme has a robust contract management framework and an effective and efficient risk management system.

Who are we looking for:

  • Proven experience in managing contractual processes - evidenced by robust contract documentation and sound understanding of contract and competition law.
  • Proven track record of delivering major/significant procurement projects to scope, time and budget and achieving successful procurement outcomes.
  • Ablilty to use different communication techniques, credibility, personal or collaborative influence, expectations management, and targeted persuasion to gain co-operation or support, affect change, and inspire others.
  • Good computing skills including working knowledge of procurement systems such as contract management.
  • Qualification in strategic procurement, MCIPS, or degree in related business discipline is desirable.
  • Sound judgement and effective, timely decision making.

If you are looking for a role which will provide challenge and the opportunity to significantly change the housing landscape in NZ then we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this role further with you.
