We want to grow New Zealand for all New Zealanders – for our communities, our families and our children – to make New Zealand a place where we can all prosper.  These aspirations are echoed in our Māori identity – Hīkina Whakatutuki – which broadly means ‘lifting to make successful'.

The KiwiBuild initiative is a key priority for the Government.  The programme provides the opportunity for a step-change in the housing and construction sector by increasing land and housing supply, investigating major greenfield and urban regeneration projects as well as exploring innovative ways to address market constraints.

The Government has established the KiwiBuild Unit within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to start delivering on the ambitious programme to build 100,000 affordable homes over the next 10 years.  The unit has been set up as an interim unit ahead of the Housing Commission, which will ultimately take over the KiwiBuild functions when it is established.

We are looking for an experienced Project Advisor who will become part of a dedicated team charged with initiating the delivery of KiwiBuild outcomes.  The Project Advisor will work closely with managers and teams across the KiwiBuild Unit to guide individual projects through acquisition, regulatory and approval processes, including the preparation of business cases and expert project/portfolio analysis and reporting. You will be responsible for ensuring that there is a robust project management framework in place and that there are measures to ensure the team have good project management methodology capability.

This role will appeal to an enthusiastic Project Advisor keen to be challenged on a high profile, large and complex programme of work.  You will be comfortable working at all levels of an organisation and enjoy building constructive relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

Who are we looking for:

  • Proven experience applying programme and project management methodologies on a large programme and/or multiple projects.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficient at using complex diagrams to convey business information.
  • A professional qualification in programme and/or project management is desirable or significant experience in a programme coordination role involving oversight of multiple projects.
  • Experience and understanding of relevant Government processes, e.g. Public Finance Act, procurement, Better Business Cases.
  • Proven experience in balancing government requirements and commercial imperatives.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement / management skills.
  • Ability to identify and appropriately manage risk.

If you are looking for a role which will provide challenge and the opportunity to significantly change the housing landscape in NZ then we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this role further with you.
