  • Opportunity to help transform the NZ housing market
  • Ambitious programme of work focused on creating thriving communities
  • Drive innovation to develop new ways to build high quality, affordable homes
  • 2 year fixed term opportunity

We want to grow New Zealand for all New Zealanders – for our communities, our families and our children – to make New Zealand a place where we can all prosper.  These aspirations are echoed in our Māori identity – Hīkina Whakatutuki – which broadly means ‘lifting to make successful'.

The KiwiBuild initiative is a key priority for the Government.  The programme provides the opportunity for a step-change in the housing and construction sector by increasing land and housing supply, investigating major greenfield and urban regeneration projects as well as exploring innovative ways to address market constraints.

The Government has established the KiwiBuild Unit within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to start delivering on the ambitious programme to build 100,000 affordable homes over the next 10 years.  The unit has been set up as an interim unit ahead of the Housing Commission, which will ultimately take over the KiwiBuild functions when it is established.

We are looking for a senior, commercially-savvy person with significant experience in the development and property environment. You will be working with the private sector, structuring home building programmes and major greenfield and urban development regeneration projects. Leading a small team you will have the ability to inspire, motivate and encourage innovation and creativity to deliver effective solutions.

As Senior Development Manager you will have the deep commercial acumen to identify opportunities, engage in complex property and commercial agreements around land and/or development opportunities and create a portfolio of transactions which meet KiwiBuild objectives.  You will actively seek innovative ways to drive this programme forward.  There will be a strong stakeholder engagement element balancing the needs of government and private sector recognising the opportunities and constraints of options available and the ability to test the views and preferences of decision makers.

Who are we looking for?

  • Significant development and property experience in related sector
  • In-depth experience preparing and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Experience and understanding of relevant government processes and regulations
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience within the private and/or public sectors
  • Strong desire to be part of ambitious programme committed to transforming the NZ Housing market

If you are looking for a role which will provide challenge and the opportunity to significantly change the housing landscape in NZ then we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this role further with you.
