About the role

As a Business and Systems Analyst in our busy Payroll Systems BAU team, you'll have a broad overview of all Business and Systems tasks to help support the wider team wherever possible to ensure this aligns with MBIE practices.  Your responsibilities will include:

  • System configuration enhancements
  • Initiation and development of new processes and their implementation
  • Business analysis gathering and documentation
  • Information analysis
  • Unit and system testing
  • Ad-hoc SQL reporting on Payroll data for the business
  • Data Cleansing


You will also work closely with the Business and Information Analyst, Test and Data Analyst, Senior Systems and Configuration Analyst and Team Leader – Payroll Systems and Process in managing the delivery of services to MBIE within a quality customer framework.

 You will be a team player in helping to identify issues as well as involvement in projects that that move us forward to meet the strategic decisions and direction for Finance and Performance.

In addition you will work as part of a busy team and be able to work to deadlines, be very customer centric, and have excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

This vacancy reports to the Team Leader, Payroll Systems and Process, in the Finance and Performance Group of MBIE.

Skills and Experience

  • Intermediate to Advanced SQL skills, Reporting writing and Data analysis
  • Experience in providing specialist support to a payroll system within a large, complex and diverse organisation
  • An understanding of payroll systems and experience with proactive process improvement in a payroll environment
  • Experience in interpreting and implementing relevant legislation and contractual terms
  • Ability to communicate effectively to business and technical teams
  • Experience in working with a payroll system provider and other third party organisations
  • A payroll related qualification or significant experience
  • Experience working with AMS Leader is preferable (but not essential)
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
  • Must consent to and satisfactorily complete a credit check
