The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) ICT branch provides valued services to our business customers.  Under the leadership of a new CIO we have recently undergone an operating model and structure change in order to lift our service delivery, increase the value we get for IT spend, and ensure we are ready to navigate an ever-changing digital world.  As a result of these changes we have a number of new roles to fill.  


About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Commercial Performance, the Supplier Relationship Manager is an externally facing specialist, that leads the supplier relationships across ICT within MBIE.  Additionally this role plays a pivotal part in collaborating across the Commercial Performance unit and other ICT areas focusing on improving supplier performance, value for money and deriving savings. 


Supplier Relationship Manager will:

  • Take responsibility for the development and implementation of the supplier relationship management (SRM) framework
  • Lead the development of supplier strategies in collaboration with colleagues in the Commercial Performance team, incorporating MBIEs technology strategy
  • Ensure the business works in accordance with the SRM framework- coaching and monitoring the wider team about the application of the framework
  • Work with various ICT Suppliers to understand the specifics of the SRM, desired behaviours and how that will relate to them
  • Engage with suppliers over the commercial aspects of service failure, systems availability and performance problems, to resolve any compensation and penalty issues
  • Lead continual development, management, education, training, assurance and review of the SRM framework by monitoring, measuring and reporting on the implementation, advising management on the status, costs, issues and risks of the implementation.


Skills and experience

  • In depth of knowledge and 7+ years' with  extensive experience in commercial contract management
  • Demonstrated experience in ICT commercial contracts management
  • Proven strategic thinker who can take others through the process of planning and  implementing road maps for transforming Supplier Relationship Management practice
  • Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and develop trust, credibility, buy-in and collaboration with managers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders
  • Strong Negotiation skills and the ability to work with vendors and internal stakeholders to gain best outcomes
  • Coaching and mentoring experience



  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience
