MBIE's ICT branch provides valuable services to our business customers.  Under the leadership of a new CIO we have taken the opportunity to implement a new operating model which puts the customer at the centre of what we do. A new structure will optimise the delivery of ICT services, strengthen our vendor relationships and ensure we are ready to navigate an ever-changing digital world. As a result of this change we have a number of opportunities available to join our team.


About the role

This position is a critical leadership role reporting directly to the CIO. The role works on behalf of the CIO to maintain MBIE's enterprise-wide operational integrity by overseeing the management and ongoing development of all production environments.

As this is a management position within the ICT branch, this will involve taking responsibility for the management of people and activity.

As the Manager Services, Platforms & Operations you will:

  • Oversee the governance of operational practices in light of MBIE's enterprise-wide requirements.
  • Manage the ongoing development of all production environments. 
  • Proactively resolve complex situations which are required to maintain MBIE's enterprise wide operational integrity.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships with MBIE senior managers and key external stakeholders.
  • Hold ICT and business leadership accountable and implement frameworks necessary to ensure the integrity of MBIE's enterprise-wide operational environment


Skills and experience

  • Proven experience leading and maintaining a complex ICT operating environment
  • Broad knowledge of ICT environments, business practice and systems
  • Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and develop trust and credibility with managers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders
  • Experienced in developing solutions to solve complex organisational problems
  • A good understanding of organisational and management theory and practice
  • Applied understanding of change management including the provision of advice on organisational change
  • Ability to influence and lead work through others to get the best outcomes where direct reporting relationships do not exist
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • An understanding and appreciation of the NZ public sector environment coupled with senior business management experience.
