An opportunity has arisen for a Manager Minerals Operations in the Energy & Resource Markets Branch at the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment.  

The Manager Minerals Operations is a people management position in MBIE.  In the role you will bring best practice regulatory, compliance and enforcement principles combined with business understanding and perspective to work in partnership with senior managers, other people managers, team members and stakeholders in the minerals sector.

You will be responsible for the effective functioning of Mineral regulatory stewardship responsibilities in relation to the Crown Mineral Estate. These responsibilities result in positive outcomes for the Crown, namely increased value of the estate and maximised royalties to the Crown.  Your responsibility span the entire regulatory lifecycle of mineral development from first engagement with potential permit holders to responsible development of mining operations to extract New Zealand's mineral wealth.

You will be responsible for taking a whole-of system regulatory view and ensuring that ongoing monitoring of the systems and services that support best practice regulation, compliance and enforcement are fit for purpose. 

 

Skills and Experience

You will have a depth of experience in leading and managing operational regulatory systems.

You will also have:

  • Excellent people management skills
  • Experienced applying best practice regulation, compliance and enforcement
  • Experience of managing processes and understanding the need to use available resources effectively to achieve the greatest impact
  • Managing in an operational / transactional environment
  • Able to build and maintain effective strategic relationships with stakeholders in government and industry.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders in industry and within Government including Ministers
  • Tertiary qualification in environmental management, public management, law or equivalent relevant experience
