About the role              

This is a newly created position which sits within our new customer centric Operating Model which was created to enable closer collaboration and role clarity within the branch and to reduce silos.

In this strategic leadership role within the new model we'll be looking to you to lead a large team as well as develop strong relationships with a multitude of stakeholders.

As the Head of Property your focus will be the delivery function related to property matters for the branch and you will be responsible for:

  • Project management (national and international),
  • Lease transactions
  • Facilities and front of house management
  • Contributing to and operationalising the property component of the Property and Procurement Strategy and Property and Procurement Operational Plan


About MBIE's Property and Procurement team

Our team provides property and procurement lifecycle management from inception, project management, delivery and planning and analytics.

The MBIE property portfolio includes office accommodation, residential accommodation, MBIE owned property, and sub-leased (co-located) premises from / with other Crown entities.

Skills and Experience required

We are keen to hear from you if you have a strong background and experience in:

  • leading commercial and/ or government property processes and systems including leading complex lease negotiations
  • managing and having an understanding in facilities management
  • commercial and/ or government project management and delivery
  • working across large organisations using a relationship approach that results in the effective provision of services whilst working with complex governance
  • leading large teams and excellent people management skills

In addition you will have:

  • A history of success in a customer focused environment
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers and staff at all levels
  • Experience in leading successful change initiatives and continuous improvement
  • A property, construction or valuation related degree (preferred) or Tertiary qualification in business and extensive commercial experience working specifically in the property industry
  • Extensive experience working as a people leader at a senior level
  • Must be a NZ citizen or hold a residence class visa
