About the role

An exciting opportunity to stamp your mark on an interesting and complex organisation, ensuring MBIE finance processes and internal controls are of an exceptionally high standard. You will champion the revenue accounting processes ensuring controls are in place, processes are understood, monitored and complied with. You will also play a pivotal role in shaping the success of the financial accounting team, providing support and mentoring, working closely with your manager and providing trusted support to the business. You will be a financial accounting specialist with experience in implementing and improving financial processes and controls. A proven ability to engage pro-actively with stakeholders on shared objectives and achieve outcomes whilst working proactively in a complex environment will be viewed favourably, as will experience working in an environment with multiple revenue streams.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to work with all parts of MBIEs business and utilise your commercial acumen and relationship management skills.

This role reports to the Manager Financial Accounting and Control in the Finance and Performance business group.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in financial accounting, including revenue in a medium to large organisation
  • Strong experience in finance processes and systems
  • High standards of professionalism and performance driven
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical information in plain language
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships
  • Knowledge and understanding of the public sector financial management environment desirable only including knowledge of relevant statutes (e.g. Public Finance Act), Government policy, accounting principles and management practices.
  • Technical accounting expertise in relation to International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Understanding and experienced in reconciliations, control, process improvement, risk management and has a focus on integrity

 

 In addition to be considered you will:

  • Have a tertiary qualification in accounting
  • Chartered Accountant status with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
  • Proven experience in Financial accounting role (Public or Commercial)
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
