An opportunity exists for a Senior Stakeholder Engagement Advisor to join the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) team within MBIE on a permanent basis.


The role will be primarily responsible for engaging, communicating and marketing to those sectors of IPONZ's customers that have a sophisticated level of IP knowledge. Part of the role will be to gain better understanding of how those clients interact, engage and use IPONZ's services in order to enhance their experiences with IPONZ.

The Senior Stakeholder Engagement Advisor's role is to lead the development and implementation of communications and engagement strategies and plans for anything from minor technical enhancements to IPONZ's online systems to significant legislative changes, implementation of new registers and out-reach programmes. 

You will also have responsibility for a number of internal relationships and will manage and improve the underlying processes and systems between IPONZ and these other key teams within MBIE.

You will work extensively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the team's work programme and to implement its strategies and plans. 


The successful candidate will have:

  • A proven client service ethic, and experience in key account management
  • Strong and persuasive communication skills, both written, oral, and presentation
  • Experience in developing and implementing communications and engagement strategies and plans, and in the design and delivery of written and other communications material to a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a strategic, proactive and collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain constructive and effective relationships at all levels, internally and externally, including proven ability to negotiate and influence positive outcomes
  • Ability to assimilate and translate new information or changes that are legislative and/or technical in nature
  • Experience in supporting the development and delivery of information and education/awareness programmes, ideally including behavioural change programmes
  • The ability to set priorities and manage time effectively
  • Project management and/or coordination skills
  • Sound IT and computer systems knowledge, including the Microsoft Office suite
  • A working knowledge of public sector environment is desirable
  • A high degree of initiative and drive and be a strategic, enthusiastic, opportunistic, collaborative and diplomatic person
