The Employer Systems and Assurance team was established as part of the recent formation of an Employment Services branch within MBIE.  The branch provides employment dispute resolution services, regulates minimum employment standards through the Labour Inspectorate and provides employer systems and assurance.  It also supports the Remuneration Authority and the Employment Relations Authority dispute resolution services to assist and resolve employment relationship issues.


The Employer Systems and Assurance team will lead sector and industry strategy development for employment and partner across Government to build regulatory and business systems assurance.  The dedicated team was established to provide the appropriate focus and requisite impetus to this work. We are looking for an experienced Principal Advisor to join our team.


In this role you will be responsible for providing timely strategic advice, leadership of projects and oversight of critical work; as well as ensuring an effective interface between the Employment Services branch and relevant policy groups within MBIE about issues and activities of common interest.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • strong and senior experience in a policy advisory role in government
  • experience of working in the employment standards sector or similar compliance environment 
  • excellent writing and communication skills: demonstrated competence in effectively communicating complex ideas both orally and in writing to a wide variety of audiences
  • demonstrated general problem identification and solution skills and the ability to develop robust solutions that are viable for government; technically possible and understandable for stakeholders
  • experience in developing processes and understanding the need to use available resources effectively to achieve the best outcomes
  • ability to build and maintain effective strategic relationships with senior stakeholders in government  and the payroll sector
  • good influencing skills.
